Now that the election is over, and with goals of assuming national leadership at some point in the near future, Alaskan Governor Sarah Palin is in the process of repairing her image. In the days after the McCain-Palin campaign came to a close, Palin engaged in a series of interviews to deny that she ever asked for an expensive wardrobe on the trail, and also to respond to claims that she was too difficult to prep for debates and public appearances. Additionally, Palin has blamed the failures of the Bush administration for the outcome of the election. Though Palin suggested this week that she will not run for the Senate in the next few years, her recent keynote address at the Republican Governors Association conference signals an interest to stay in the spotlight and a need for a sound public relations strategy. A few of Palin’s recent interviews may be seen below:
Discussion Questions:
1. What do you think are Palin’s goals for a future political career? What kind of public relations campaign do these goals demand? More specifically, to whom should she direct her rhetoric?
2. Is Palin doing enough to repair her image? What should she do differently?
3. If you were one of Palin’s closest advisors, what type of campaign would you design to repair her image? Where would she appear? What would she say? Who might she attack for her past “failures”?
