Since the Democratic Primary began winding down Michelle Obama has been in the cross-hairs of the Republican Party and conservative media pundits.  Mrs. Obama has been accused of using the term “whitey” while giving a speech in church, and most recently has been criticized for saying during a political rally, “For the first time in my adult life, I am really proud of my country.”  Battling the image of the angry black woman that has been depicted in the media, Obama used an appearance on “The View” last week to restore her reputation.  Notably, Obama used the opportunity to talk abouther childhood, to defend herself against the recent accusations, to greet the hosts with the much talked about Obama fist bump, and to praise Hillary Clinton for clearing the path for other female political candidates.  The appearance, which was widely seen as a success, may be seen in the following clip:

Discussion Questions:

1.  What, in your opinion, was most effective in repairing Michelle Obama’s image during her appearance on “The View.”

2.  What should Michelle Obama do to avoid the criticism she has received from Republican and conservative media pundits?

3.  What can Michelle Obama do to make herself more likable to Clinton’s once-avid supporters?
