Walmart ‘s reputation took a significant hit as it grew rapidly, but in recent years the company has attempted to show that it can serve an important role in reshaping corporate practices with its infamous buying power. Most notably, Walmart has stepped up to partner with First Lady Michelle Obama in an effort to make America healthier by encouraging food suppliers to cut sodium, sugar, and trans fats in their products. Discussion Questions:

1.  How has Walmart’s rapid expansion hurt its image? In other words, how do many people with a negative attitude about Walmart view the company?

2.  How might concerns about Walmart’s rapid expansion have made it an easy target of government officials, especially those at the local level?

3.  Will Walmart’s re-branding as a responsible corporate citizen help the company expand into neighborhoods once resistant to its presence?
