Singer Kelly Clarkson was surprised after being chastised by her Twitter followers after she Tweeted an endorsement of Ron Paul ahead of the Republican caucus in Iowa. Clarkson Tweeted “I love Ron Paul. I liked him a lot during the last republican nomination and no one gave him a chance. If he wins the nomination for the Republican party in 2012 he’s got my vote. Too bad he probably won’t.” Many of Clarkson’s supposed fans then noted that Paul was allegedly racist and homophobic in his past. Sensing that she had stepped on a hornet’s nest, Clarkson immediately apologized.

Despite the appearance that Clarkson would be punished for her political beliefs, sales of her most recent album surged after the debacle. In just one day, sales increased by 442%, making it seem that Clarkson’s own endorsement was endorsed by the public.
